CONOR MCGREGOR TWEETS THAT HE HAS RETIRED FROM MMA

While most people were sleeping, former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor put a tweet out saying that he’s retired from MMA. Below is the Complete quotation from his tweet:
“Hey guys quick announcement, I’ve decided to retire from the game formally called”Mixed Martial Art” today. I need all my older colleagues well going forward in contest. I join my partners on this venture, already in retirement. Suitable Pina Coladas on me fellas!”
At first glance, it’s difficult to choose McGregor seriously. This isn’t the first time. The other time he tweeted something similar came after he had been filed by Nate Diaz at a shocker in UFC 196. Just a couple of months after tweeting that, he had been back in the cage, winning a majority decision over Diaz at UFC 202. So if McGregor tweets something about retiring from MMA, you need to keep in mind he’s pulled this stunt before.
At second glance, though, there could be something more to this. In the end, McGregor doesn’t desire MMA. It’s only a matter of whether or not he has that burning passion to step in the cage, as far as finances go, he’s set for life. The Floyd Mayweather boxing superfight in 2017 made McGregor up of $100 million, and that monetary windfall help set him up for success with Suitable 12 whiskey. McGregor does not really truly”need” MMA anymore. However he is a rival, and he likely does not want to go out on a catastrophic entry loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov in UFC 229 in his last bout, not to mention all the shenanigans that went along with it.
This could be a negotiating tactic by McGregor if anything. It is smart for McGregor to capture the eye of MMA fans and press. He hasn’t even fought in almost a year and yet is still talked about over any other fighter. He’s clearly a very smart man. The UFC has had discussions with McGregor about coming at UFC 239 at a co-main event bout against Nate Diaz, but McGregor has been adamant he would like to fight in the main event, and it appears that’s in the crux of his beef with UFC president Dana White and co.. This could be McGregor posturing and trying to get the UFC to call his bluff, but it remains to be seen.
With no McGregor, the UFC will have to proceed and reserve UFC 239 without him as a possible fight. The rumors are that the UFC would like to do Daniel Cormier from Brock Lesnar for the UFC heavyweight title in the main event, and there are lots of other alternatives for the card including Kamaru Usman vs. Colby Covington for the UFC welterweight title. As much as the fans want to view McGregor come back and fight someone like Diaz, as far as it seems like the promotion needs McGregor, they really don’t, and the UFC’s well-oiled machine will probably continue to move forwards with or without the Irish superstar.
