TONY FERGUSON VS. DONALD CERRONE ADDED TO UFC 238

Two of the best lightweights in the world are about to scrap under a month off, and below are my ideas on this brilliant matchup between two of their most exciting fighters around the UFC roster.
Tony Ferguson vs. Donald Cerrone, UFC 238 A lightweight matchup between Tony Ferguson and Donald Cerrone has been added to UFC 238, which takes place June 8 at United Center in Chicago, Illinois. ESPN first reported the matchup, which came together on short notice after Ferguson was recently cleared to fight again from the UFC, who desired to beef up its own forthcoming PPV crd in Chicago.
Ferguson (24-3) is 14-1 overall from the UFC and is currently riding an impressive 11-fight win streak, which is one of the greatest winning streaks of almost any active UFC fighter. Ferguson is coming from a massive TKO win over Anthony Pettis in one of 2018’s top fights back in UFC 229, but hasn’t fought yet in 2019 because of accidents and individual troubles. He was recently cleared by physicians and by the UFC to come back to the cage, and the game is much better off with him as he’s an amazing fighter who always puts amazing fights for its fans. Ferguson was waiting a very long time to get a title shot 155lbs but hasn’t got one to this point. However, if he can go out there and beat Cerrone in remarkable style, it would be impossible for the UFC matchmakers to pass giving him a title shot. With UFC lightweight winner Khabib Nurmagomedov likely fighting interim champ Dustin Poirier in September in UFC 242 to unify the belts, Ferguson would have a fantastic debate to fight the winner of that bout.
Cerrone (36-11, 1 NC) is 23-8, 1 NC in the Octagon and is the winningest fighter in UFC history. Though he’s 36 today, Cerrone is arguably battling the highest clip of his career so far as he is coming off of three straight upset wins over Mike Perry, Alex Hernandez and Al Iaquinta, the latter two coming from the lightweight division. Although the struggle with Iaquinta happened only last wee, Cerrone took little harm in that struggle and when the chance to battle Ferguson on brief notice came up he had to accept it. We all know Cerrone is always willing to fight anybody, anytime, so maybe it is not surprising to see him struggle Ferguson within just a few weeks, though it’s likely to be a tough fight as Ferguson is a stud.
This is a huge fight, and one that should very popular amongst sports bettors. Though Cerrone has seemed great since moving to lightweight, he was still the betting underdog in his last and I really don’t see any reason why he would not be a dog back to Ferguson, who’s on such a long win streak. The oddsmakers agree with me, since they recently opened the odds for the struggle, with Ferguson launching as a -245 favored with all the comeback on Cerrone at +175. Personally, I think the line should be a bit tighter, but Ferguson deserves to be the betting favourite no matter.
